P7s last day!

The Scripture Union gifted transition booklets called “It’s your move: your secondary school survival guide” to our P7s this morning.

We had a whole school assembly where the P7s explained their welcome poster (created for the P6s, full of hints & tips about P7.)

The P7s were awarded with their Bikeability Level 2 certificates. JJ was also presented with the chess trophy, after winning the Round Robin competition this term!

After break the P7s enjoyed playing games together before leaving the primary school for the last time!

Thank you so much for all your kind words, cards and gifts. They mean a great deal to all of us.

I will miss the P7s and wish each and every one of them a lovely summer and a successful S1!

Return of Chromebooks + chargers

Please can all pupils return their Chromebooks and chargers tomorrow? (The high school will issue the S1s with Chromebooks in August.)

A spare carrier bag (and a t-shirt or top for signing) will also be required for all the bits and pieces to be sent home.

Bikeability

Please can those finishing off their Bikeability training bring their bikes to school tomorrow and Wednesday? Rory and Debbie will be at school both mornings.

P7 Polo shirt / T-shirt Signing

I am looking forward to welcoming the P7s back on Monday, even if it is only for 3 and a half days!

The P7s are keen to continue the tradition of signing an old school top / light coloured t-shirt before they leave the primary school.

Please could the P7s bring in a polo shirt / t-shirt to be signed on Monday/Tuesday?

I will try to source as many fabric pens as I can.

(We have one or two old school polo shirts / t-shirts in school if pupils would rather use these.)

P7-Led Skills Academies

A big thank you to all our hard-working P7s for their leadership & organisation of our skills academies this term. The P7s learned a lot over the 4 sessions.

Mr Macrae’s visit

Mr Macrae visited P7 on Wednesday 14th June. The pupils enjoyed meeting him and hearing more about high school. They had the chance to ask questions too.

Global Goal 15: Life on Land

Throughout May, the P7s learned about the UN Sustainable Development Goals (“The Global Goals.”)

After a wide ranging discussion about the issues that they felt most strongly about, we whittled down the goals from 17 to 6, then held a class poll to see which one we should focus on. Goal 15: Life on Land was the clear winner!

The P7s were asked to look at various statements about rainforests and separate them into issues that affect the whole world and issues that affect the things and people living there.

They then had to take the 7 issues that affect everyone on the planet and create a diamond, showing their group’s 2 most important issues at the top.

They then reported back their group’s opinions to the whole class.

It was interesting that most of the groups were concerned about carbon dioxide absorption.

Throughout the month, pupils did some personal research on endangered species in Scotland (and throughout the world) and what they could do to protect them.

Later in May, we looked at a cartoon poster by Margreet De Heer about Life on Land. The images were very attractive but the vocabulary was far too difficult for primary school children.

The P7s worked in groups to redesign and simplify the posters.

Our posters are now on display in our classroom.

Transition Week!

GUHS are really looking forward to welcoming our P7s tomorrow.

The P7s should check the transition Google Classroom for

1. Their registration and practical class lists
2. Timetable for their transition week
3. Information about getting to school

P7s, Please remember to either bring a packed lunch, or money for the canteen. Please wear your primary school uniform, and bring your chromebook!

Tomorrow morning, Miss Mullin will meet the P7s at the primary school gate at 8.30am and will walk them up to GUHS for 8.40am.

On arrival at the high school, Mr Humphris and Ms Rees will be at the front door to meet them. Their first session will be in the school theatre. 

On Friday, you will need to bring your PE kit (weather dependant, we will be outside on the back field)

Transition Dance

A fabulous time was had by all at our transition dance last night. A big thank you to all who helped including the senior pupils from the High School.
